CHIM: A web biography of David Seymour

The International Center of Photography is a non-profit organization, receiving support for its programs and operations from individuals, corporations, foundations and government agencies. Established in 1974, ICP holds an Absolute Charter from the Regents of the University of the State of New York. ICP's general operations are supported this year by grants from the Institute of Museum Services and the New York State Council on the Arts.

The International Center of Photography is a comprehensive photographic institution, whose programs embrace all aspects of photography -- from asthetics to technique, from the nineteenth century to the present, from photojournalism to the avant garde, from master photographers to newly emerging talents.

More in-depth information can be found under the official ICP Website. This site has a section on David Seymour.

THE INTERNATIONAL CENTER OF PHOTOGRAPHY is:

After initial viewing at ICP, the exhibitions are circulated to museums, galleries and universities throughout the United States and abroad.

EDUCATION A broad program of photographic workshops, lectures, courses, and symposia, covering the range of subjects, from darkroom technique to commercial and critical issues. The programs are given by a changing roster of the foremost photographers, critics, art historians, designers, publishers and other professionals. In addition, three programs are provided for students interested in full-time studies in photography. They include: a Master of Arts program in conjunction with New York University, a one-year certificate program in Photojournalism and Documentary Photography, and a one-year certificate in General Photographic Studies.

ARCHIVES AND COLLECTIONS A unique research facility open to students, researchers and members. The archives include original black-and-white and color prints, audio and video tapes, and films. Photographs from the ICP collection of 19th-and 20th-century images are exhibited regularly in the Permanent Collection Gallery.

RESOURCE LIBRARY Books, periodical subscriptions and biographic files on photographers and major subjects in photography are available to ICP students, members and researchers.

PUBLICATIONS In keeping with the Center's expanding publications policy, most exhibitions are accompanied by catalogues, or by books issued in collaboration with trade publishers. Our Tenth Anniversary Year was marked with the publication of The International Center of Photography Encyclopedia of Photography (Pound Press/Crown Publishers).

SCREENING ROOM Each exhibition is accompanied by a film or video presentation in the ICP Screening Room. These alternate with vanguard video works by an international selection of artists in the new series "Video-Feature."

MUSEUM SHOP New photographic books, posters, postcards, catalogues, and magazines are available. An extensive backlist comprises a range of themes including photojournalism, art photography, fashion, history, criticism, technical books and anthologies. The Museum Shop Gallery highlights photographs from newly published photographic books.

MEMBERSHIP A membership program helps support the Center, the new ICP Midtown Gallery, and offers benefits to individuals ($30 to $1,000 levels) and to corporations ($1,500 to $5,000 categories).
